PLEASE READ "DURABILITY ON CRAFTED ITEMS" THREAD FIRST OR THIS MAY MAKE LITTLE SENSE
If you read the above thread, you'll know I've (hopefully) discovered a formula for predicting durability on crafted weapons and armour. I believe it can be expanded to work out the "Actual skill" requirement for unknown new items. In order to do this, you need someone who can craft the item and to know their exact crafting skill, and the normal durability of the item concerned. Here's a practical example. I know that I can craft a Blood Bow, but do not know the exact skill requirement. As far as I recollect, we were told by the Soma staff that the Actual skill required is "over 50 but less than 60". So I craft a Blood Bow and get 1425 dur. The normal dur is 1200. Carry out the following steps to discover the skill requirement, where "A" will be the % of dur above norm, "B" the adjusted Actual skill, and "C" the adjusted Required skill :-
1) 1425 - 1200 = 225
2) (225/1200) x 100 = 18.75 % (Figure "A")
3) "A" = (Actual skill x 0.75 ((Figure "B")) - (Req skill x 0.75 ((Figure "C"))
4) So :- "A" = "B" - "C"
Equation rules let us also say that "C" = "B" - "A"
5) We know that "A" = 18.75 and that "B" = 60 (80 X 0.75), so "C" = 60 - 18.75 which is 41.25
6) Finally, we need to multiply "C" (41.25) by the inverse of 0.75 (which is 1.3 recurring, the same as making 3/4 into 4/3 in fraction terms), so :-
41.25 x 1.3333 = 54.9999
7) Rounding this up, we can say that the Actual skill required to craft a Blood Bow is 55.
Now I know this a bit long winded, and I hope I've made it clear. Storm and I tried the theory with him crafting Shaman Shoes, and it came out thus, where "?" is the Required skill :-
1136 - 800 = 336
(336/800) x 100 = 42%
42 = (74 x 0.75) - (? x 0.75)
42 = 55.5 - (? x 0.75)
55.5 - 42 = 13.5
13.5 x 1.3333 = 17.999
? = 17.999 rounded up to 18
All our crafting notes and website info confirm 18 to be the skill requirement for Shaman Shoes.
What I need now is some feedback. I need crafters to post their actual skill, item crafted, and dur obtained. Then, we can shove the info into the equations and see if the theory holds up. Item can be as common place as you like, but must be weps or armour. I'd also like to know if anyone understood what the fek I'm on about with the above equations
