Well along with Micky, I too have had my fill of WoW, and fancy something new. A certain other twat is also playing on Blightweald, defiance side, and I am currently utilising a 7 day trial. If you interested it's a 9GB d/l, or you can buy from www.play.com for £13.50 and they sellk game cards for £7.49 for 30 days, which is way cheaper than buying direct from Trion, the makers of the game...

Hi peeps:)
I've now cancelled my WoW account and won't be going back again; it got so clicky that it ceased to be fun in the guild and I couldnt be arsed to join another guild.
I think Knifer has let his account lapse too. He is playing Rift on a casual basis atm.
I am enjoying Rift atm; but a way off of end game instancing - only lvl 42 atm.
Rift is a lot like WoW in many ways but with a lot more possibilites and variables for chr building it seems. Too soon to say much more.
I am enjoying the lvlling questing and the Rift attacks that happen frequently make it a lot of fun.

My thoughts of WoW are extremely similar to Micky's, and my account expires in two days. I've gifted most of my possessions away as I won't be needing them any more.
Rift is certainly keeping me interested for now, and as Micky says it seems very versatile, not to mention much prettier! Ohf says that gearing up is a bit harder than in WoW and more important. The guild we are in do raid, but are still picking up pugs even though there are plenty of level 50 chars in the guild.
Are you thinking of giving it a look then bar? Micky and Knifey are playing on a different server than Ohf and I, also Wraithborn is in our guild now, but if you fancy joining us were are on Blightweald, defiant side. You can always take advantage of the free server transfer if Micky's server appeals more...
I've mentioned it to a couple of other people in WoW, but most are of the opinion of not wanting to learn a new game to play. Can't see wen-tzu surviving for much longer unless something drastic happens though.

I dunno, Keif, it looks a bit too similar in many ways tbh. I cannot in truth say that WOW is very exciting atm, but if I went for something else, I don't think it would be Rift :/

the similarities are many and I would think that it is probably all sitting on the same game engine. The many differences still make it good interesting and keep the learning curve down to manageable levels at the same time. If you liked wow but are a bit bored with it, Rift is a good alternative to try imo

Another alternative if your looking for a replacement to WoW is Guild Wars 2. Although it wont be out until early 2012, it has been quoted to be the "WoW killer". New game mechanics have been implemented which bring and end to quest givers and, instead, you must find the quests yourself. For example, on WoW, if a bunch of bandits were attacking a local shop, you would walk past it as "you didnt have the quest for that." In Guild wars 2 they've introduced dynamic programming which rewards players for acting on their own initiative to complete quests at their own disgretion. Failing to save the shop may then lead to a chain of other quests, such as tracking the bandits to their original camp and taking back what was lost.
Although this sounds rather RPG, much like a massive online version of fable and such, it provides an interesting new concept on online gaming.
Admittedly i had the same problem as both Keif and Micky, ultimately leading me to joining other guilds in search of that 'something' which would keep me in WoW. It seems that it wasnt the guilds at all, rather it was the game failing to entertain me. Rift does look good though. Does it take long to level up? The original 0-60 on old WoW was quite a slog...
